The prevalence
of obesity in the United States has been rising despite a lowering
of fat intake in the average diet compatible with recommendations
from the American Heart Association. Based on the hypothesis
that a high carbohydrate intake may be contributing to this
trend, investigators compared a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet
with a high-unsaturated fat, low-carbohydrate diet -- with surprising
results.
